Pacini, Gran Concertante

The title, “Gran Concertone,” the composer no doubt chose to reflect the fact that this original composition is a remarkable display piece for the wind band. The level of difficulty in the solo parts is astonishing even by today’s standards.

Notes

Giovanni Pacini (1796-1867) was one of the most prolific opera composers in music history, having completed more than 70 operas. He was well known in his time, as is evidenced on the title page of the manuscript score where a copyist has written that this “Originale” work for band was composed “del Cel: Mo: Pacini,” which means “the celebrated Maestro Pacini.”

The title, “Gran Concertone,” the composer no doubt chose to reflect the fact that this original composition is a remarkable display piece for the wind band. The level of difficulty in the solo parts is astonishing even by today’s standards.
