Charles-Simon Catel is one of the French Resolution’s most important composers and conductors. The Ouverture en Fa, composed in 1794, stands out in the Revolution repertoire for its technical demand and interesting harmonic usage. As a review from a performance in 1794 noted, the work “excited the just enthusiasm of the audience.” An interesting and adventurous work from an important composer, during a period of great historical significance for wind bands.
