This is a fine example of this form which was very popular in France in the nineteenth century. Each section of the band is featured; the form is one long movement. Bailton was the Chef de Musique au 127e [regiment] in France. There are several marches and polkas extant, all published between 1886 and 1892. Two overtures survive: one called En Exil! and the other called The Prayer of The Druids.
